Model Reduction of Complex Dynamical Systems (MODRED) is a series of model reduction conferences previously organized in Hamburg (2008), Berlin (2010), Magdeburg (2013), Odense (2017) and Graz (2019).  These meetings bring together all major groups from Europe and the world working on a range of model reduction strategies with applications in many domains of science and technology.

Scope & Topics

The conferences cover a wide spectrum of scientific topics including:

Computational methods for model order reduction of dynamical systems, in particular (but not limited to)

  • System-theoretic methods (e.g., system balancing, Hankel norm approximation)
  • Rational interpolation (moment-matching, H2-optimal reduction, …)
  • POD and generalizations
  • Reduced basis methods
  • Tensor-based techniques (PGD, low-tensor-rank approximations, …)

But also Data-driven methods, e.g.,

  • Vector fitting
  • Loewner matrix and pencil based approaches
  • Dynamic mode decomposition (DMD)
  • Kernel-based methods

And Surrogate modeling for design and optimization

As well as Model reduction methods in applications, e.g.,

  • Network systems
  • Computational electromagnetics
  • Computational nanoelectronics
  • Structural mechanics
  • Fluid dynamics
  • Control of PDEs
  • Data assimilation
